Romania

Last week, Jakob and I took a 24-hour bus ride to Romania so that we could see our good friend Calin get married. I had never been to Eastern Europe, and I had no idea what to expect. I learned so much on this trip. For one, Romania is an extremely beautiful country. We spent most of our time in Translyvania: The Carpathians, rolling hills, untouched nature mixed with farmland. The second thing I learned is that Romanians are possibly the most hospitable people I have ever met. I have never experienced such hospitality. I learned a little about life during communism, a little about the Roma people, or Gypsies, and a little about the real "Dracula," or Vlad the Impaler. Munich Kocherlball 2012

The Munich Kocherlball is an annual event dating back to the early 19th century. Literally translated as "Cook's Ball," the dance started as an event for cooks and servants to go and find husbands and wives. They were allowed just the morning hours from 6 to 10 a.m., and they had to be back to their masters in time to serve lunch. The tradition carries on with people from around Munich arriving at the Chinese Tour in the English Garden as early as 4 a.m. to set up tables with food and candles. The band and dancing begins around 6. People have already had a few by 7...

Fashion Photos

I haven't posted since I got my new camera. I've been taking time getting to know it. Last week, I took some fashion photos for Karin Hernandez, a friend who is looking to start a career as a make-up artist here in Germany. Fashion photography isn't exactly my passion, but it was fun to do for a day. Here are a couple of my favorites from the day. Make-up, hair, styling all done by Karin.

Last year in Elba, I took photos with Jakob's cell phone. This year I shot with a brand new 5d Mark II that I got for my birthday thanks to the amazing people in my life. These are scenes from my first week with the camera. 

A Little Lovesong to Austria

I braved a solo train trip over to Austria to visit Jakob while he is on assignment this weekend. Yesterday, I took 31 kilometer bike ride (I note the distance only because, for me, this was a huge adventure) down to the Almsee surrounded by the Alps. A beautiful place. The German Alps

Today, I took my first hike in the Alps. Flo, Jakob, and I went to Garmisch, which is about 40 minutes outside of Munich, for a multimedia workshop. After the workshop, we went on a short hike.
